My Top 5 Hunger Games Characters
My Top 5 Hunger Games Characters.
I have to say that these are just my opinions, so if you want to spark debate in the comments here I will understand. Adrian and Cadence were yelling at me while I wrote this so I will expect it. Anyways, The Hunger Games series was like my obsession in January so hope you enjoy!
Number 5. Finnick Odair
Some of you may disagree with Finnick not being in the top 3. And although I do think he’s an incredible character I don’t think he’s really worked his way up to the top in my mind. I find him to be a very good comedic relief, and do find his background to be really well developed and sad. He definitely has the potential to be somebody’s number one character; he is just not mine.
Number 4. Haymitch Abernathy
When I read the Hunger Games I didn't expect to get so attached to Haymitch. He is originally portrayed to be this middle aged alcoholic that the entirety of district 12 hates. Luckily, I do think that ultimately he changed. I think it mostly had to do with Katniss and Peeta, and him finally having something that he cared about. You can see Haymitch becoming a dad figure to specifically Katniss and that really changes the way that the reader views him. I think that because of the journey that Haymitch went on through the books, he is deserving of being number 4.
Number 3. Peeta Mellark
I think that Peeta is such an interesting character. I think his backstory goes kind of unnoticed despite how tragic it really is. I find his actions to be very well reflective of his past, and for that reason he feels very true and realistic. I think a lot of people ignore how smart he actually is, when he is the reason that Katniss and Peeta were able to stay alive. I think that Peeta haters get too caught up in his actions in the third book when those actions were entirely against his will and not related to his true personality. All in all, Peeta is a really kind genius and that is why I think he is number 3.
Number 2. Katniss Everdeen
I do not understand the underappreciation of Katniss Everdeen. She is the strongest character in the series. I find her to be a very understandable and rational character. Her narration is so fascinating, and you can really believe the way she makes her decisions, and back her up on it. She is a great fighter with a bow and with her strength, and is, although she doesn’t intend it, an amazing performer. The only reason she is not number one, is sometimes I got frustrated with her in Mockingjay because she was way too stubborn at times, especially when she hated Haymitch for like half the book. Despite that, she went through so much and is still such an incredible fighter and character.
Number 1. Johanna Mason
I entirely believe that Johanna is one of the strongest characters in the series. I find her backstory to be extremely sad, but as a character you can really see how it shaped her. She is, I think, the boldest character in the novel. She is unafraid of the capitol. In Catching Fire she is one of the funniest characters, and is able to remain composed even in the hardest situations. In Mockingjay she and Katniss form a complete iconic duo, especially as they attempt to be recruited to storm the capital. I was unsure of her when she first joined the other characters in the Arena, however as she bonded with Katniss I began to really understand and sympathize with her character. Despite the fact that she votes to do one final Hunger Games, she is a complete badass in every other part of the series, so for that reason I think she is the number one character.
Hi Miranda! I appreciate how thorough this blog post is and how it covers specific reasons for each character. I think this was a really accurate rating, although I would've liked if some of the characters were switched around. That's more for personal preference, but I really liked how in depth you went with describing the characters. Amazing blog!
